THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY FOR POST-OP PATIENTS
The following foods, recipes and info are only allowed after bariatric surgery. Do not use this information for the pre-op diet phase before surgery! For pre-op info, please click here.
During Week 3, most people seem to do well with small amounts of pureed food throughout the day.
Allowed Foods
- Yogurt (plain or sugar-free, low or non-fat, blended without fruit chunks)
- Strained cream soups (celery, potato, mushroom, or chicken made with skim milk)
- Skim milk with ½ scoop of protein powder
- Protein supplements added to food or water for extra protein
- Mashed cottage cheese (low or non-fat, small curd)
- Ricotta cheese (low or non-fat)
- Scrambled eggs or egg substitute
- Pureed beef, chicken, or turkey
- Baby food meats
- White fish (cod, haddock, tilapia, or orange roughy) mashed with a fork
- Canned chicken breast, mashed and moist
- Canned tuna fish in water, mashed
Grains/Starches
- Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice
- Farina
- Grits
- Baby oatmeal
- Mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes
- Pureed winter squash
Vegetables
- Tomato juice
- Diet V8 Splash or V8 Juice
- Pureed spinach, carrots, summer squash, or green beans
- Avoid pureed broccoli, cauliflower, and other fibrous vegetables at this stage
Fruit
- Diluted 100% fruit juices (apple, grape, or cranberry)
- Lite juices sweetened with non-nutritive sweetener
- Applesauce
- Mashed bananas or mashed canned fruits in own juices
- Pureed peaches, apricots, pears, pineapples, or melons
Sample Meal Plan for Week 3 Pureed Foods Diet
Breakfast
2 tablespoons of scrambled eggs or egg substitute and 2 tablespoons of Cream of Wheat
Lunch
2 tablespoons of mashed low-fat cottage cheese and 2 tablespoons of pureed peaches
Dinner
2 tablespoons of mashed and thinned down canned chicken or tuna with lite mayo and 2 tablespoons of steamed and mashed vegetables (non-starchy)
Snack
Protein shake
