It is especially important to follow these instructions regarding medications before surgery, as many medications may interfere with the clotting of blood and interact with anesthesia. By not complying with these instructions your surgery may be postponed.

Birth control / hormones RT
Because the surgeries are very quick and less than 1 hour, it is not mandatory to stop the birth control or hormone therapies before surgery. Make sure to discuss this with the surgeon in Tijuana.

3 days before surgery date, stop taking:
- Diabetes medications (Exception is for Type I diabetes)
- Cholesterol medications
- Uric acid medications for Gout
7 days before surgery date, stop ASPIRIN & NSAIDS including these medications:
- Aspirin (Anacin, Ascription, Bayer, Buffering, Ecotrin, Excedrin)
- Celecoxib (Celebrex)
- Diclofenac potassium
- Diclofenac sodium
- Etodolac
- Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Motrin IB)
- Indomethacin (Indocin, Indocin SR)
- Meloxicam (Mobic)
- Naproxen
- Piroxicam
7 days before surgery date, stop blood thinners including:
- Coumadin
- Warfarin sodium
- Clopidogrel
- Plavix
- Eliquis
- Apixaban
2 weeks before surgery date, stop taking:
- Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)
- Humira, Embrel, Taltz, Remicade etc.
2 weeks before surgery, stop taking herbal supplements:
- Echinacea
- Ephedra
- Feverfew
- Fish Oil
- Garlic
- Gingko Biloba
- Ginger
- Green Tea
- Kava Kava
- St. John’s Wort
- Valerian
- Vitamin E
