This Sacred Heart Soup recipe has helped to make the pre-op diet much easier. You may have this soup in unlimited quantities. Remember that you must count the ounces of lean protein and limit to 6 oz for women and 8 oz for men daily.
1 or 2 cans of stewed tomatoes
3 large green onions
1 large can of beef, chicken, or vegetable broth (use the lower sodium and lower fat brands for lower calories)
1 package of Lipton Soup mix (chicken noodle)
1 bunch of celery
2 cans of green beans
2 pounds of carrots
2 green peppers
Optional: add zucchini, non-starchy vegetables, leftover baked chicken, turkey or chicken meatballs, etc.
Cut veggies in small to medium pieces. Cover with water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue to cook until vegetables are tender. Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, bouillon, hot sauce, and/or Worcestershire sauce, if desired.
